What would you do if your neighbour sent you a "formal letter" requesting you pay him £35,000 for an odd reason? That's exactly what happened to one baffled woman whose neighbour"slid a certified letter" under her door, rather than speaking to her face-to-face.
The neighbour claimed that her WiFiis "transmitting signals through the hallway, which he argues constitutes unauthorised use of communal airwave space". The woman claimed on Reddit that she was being charged $47,000 (£35,000) in "compensation" for "what he calls electromagnetic trespassing".
She questioned whether this was even a "real thing". And in his letter, he'd worked everything out as "proof".

She wrote: "He said in the letter that he's charging a rate of $1 per cubic foot over a three-year period. He's attached diagrams, frequency measurements he claims to have taken, and references to property law regarding airspace rights.
"He's given me 30 days to pay the full amount or agree to disable my WiFi and use only Ethernet or sign an easement agreement giving him partial ownership rights to my router.
"My landlord says to ignore it, but the letter mentioned legal actions. I, for one, think it's ridiculous, but I don't want any nasty legal surprises.
"Do I need to consult with an attorney, or is my landlord right that this will go nowhere? Any guidance would be appreciated".
In the comments, people were dumbfounded that the neighbour had done such a thing, but many admitted that they had "no idea" what he was going on about.
Someone suggested: "This is when you hit them back with a fake lawyer letter of your own, charging him for illegal monitoring of your wifi signal with various charges against him and offer to settle out of court with no charges if he drops his own".
Another wrote: "Nope. You charge him double for 'security and privacy violations related to monitoring of transmissions'."
Others pointed out that there's no way this letter could be certified if it were slid under her door.
They explained: "Former postal worker here: A letter slid under the door by your neighbour is not a certified letter. That can only come through the USPS. And they will not slide it under your door. Your landlord is right, ignore them".
Some Reddit users suggested that they try to annoy the neighbour for wasting her time, saying: "I'd reply with a 1 million counter suit filed under his door for illegal monitoring and capture of your WiFi signals. Demand immediate payment or return of said captured waveforms".
But somebody else warned: "Hilarious in principle, but in practice it's probably safer not to aggravate actual crazy people".
A Redditor wrote: "The alternative would be to out crazy him. Tell him there's no way the WiFi is making it to his place/ common hall because you've painted the walls with special paint that blocks the WiFi from escaping. No way you'd ever let one of your precious WiFi waves get away and weaken your signal".
